He is average on height and weight. His weight was taken wrong at the last appointment so this time he weighs 14 lbs and he's 26 in. long- which puts in 50 percentile in both categories. We asked about teething and this is what the Doctor said:
DR- "You see these tiny little indention's in his gums?"
ME- "Yep"
DR- "Well those are his teeth but he is not teething."
ME- "Oh so you can see his teeth but he's not teething?"
DR- "Yep"

So I am just going to assume he is teething. Which has not been bad if he is teething. He just wants to chew on everything. He is also starting to grab at everything. Plants, food, whatever is on the shelves, cats and dogs. How did you deal with animals and a crawling baby?
He started his day with a bang and now currently is in the state of boom....It's been awhile since he had a manic episode. That is what I call them. Just pissed, and I have no idea why. So gave much love and bit of alone time and now he is passed out. I love the cry decipher charts they have in all the baby books. He has a new cry of lately its this low horse throaty cry. Very soft. KB and I both feel horrible because so many times we laugh when he cries- not in a mean way. For one his mad raisin face is adorable and there is almost never any tears, just this red little faced mini-us. So we figure he got KB's awesome quiet person and he got my attitude....Great.
It's a picture of ME! You will notice once Bear was born pictures of me became nonexistent. Not that I mind. So for our Day 3 of 30 days of Newness we went to North Hollywood Food Truck Festival. It was a really good time and really good food! Bear of course did amazing! We were able to walk from our place. The music was super loud and hot out, but it never phased him.
Wake Eat Activity Sleep. A basic but really good schedule he is on. Now that he is getting older and looking deeply at things I wanted to start adding some fun activities in even if he does not quite grasp it all yet. So instead of just going to the library and thrifting or grocery shopping we are off to new adventures. So my challenge to myself is 30 days of Newness for me and him. I want to get him out on more hikes, he has only been to Runyon Canyon. Get him to start embracing nature and outdoor activity. It's not only good for him but for me.
So for my 30 days I have been juicing. Fresh juice with a variety of vegetables and fruits. Bear's 30 days is the great outdoors. I started this several days ago. We first went to Huntington Library (photos will come later). Bear did amazing for such a long period of time. He really stared at the cactus and several of the paintings- Pinkie and Little Boy Blue. The colors are really attractive to him. Yesterday I took him to the park. He had been quite fussy all day because of his teething. I laid a blanket on a soft bed of clovers. As soon as he was down he was cooing. He snuggled his face into the soft blanket and sank into the cloves. We had a surprise visit from KB too!Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-88095956552471841192011-06-25T10:14:00.000-07:002011-06-25T10:14:26.243-07:00Toys for my Tot
<img border="0" height="320" i$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-swCjlNi9rCw/TgS-QqYu1CI/AAAAAAAAAz4/XSNKUcPRGw4/s320/P6070719.JPG" width="240" />
Pants from Babies R Us, Onesie from Baby Gap
Bear could not quite keep his head up yet, and with his acid reflux had a bit of trouble using it at first. Now that his head is strong he loves this swing. We put on some music and a light that changes color to let him chill. He can also sit and watch me cook in the kitchen or relax in the bathtub. The swing he has loved from the beginning is the Fisher-Price Papasan cradle swing. It cradles as oppose to sitting straight up. It has dangling stars and moons, and a mirror to check himself out. Bear takes a nap in it sometimes. It was great when he was fussy from reflux to put him in it. It calmed him almost immediately. He does not lay flat but at an angle which they suggest for reflux.

Define: caps or fitting worn over ones teeth, either on top, bottom, or both. To be mostly made out of gold, silver, diamond, or platinum.

Ex."Woah! I carry around some extra grillz in my fanny pack, yo!"

I am sure there are people who do not agree with the need for a pacifier or thumb sucking out of fear for addiction to such an object, or messing up your teeth. Well not me.

"Hello my name is Whitney and I am a former addict of thumb sucking. I have successfully been free from such things since childhood."

I loved sucking my thumb as a kid. I can completely recall it. My family tried everything to get me to stop. My Grandma threw away my favorite pillow I like to hold while thumb'n it. They tried Tabasco, soap, and any other foul tasting item they could think of. It never worked. I started second grade and there was a girl Lisa who sucked her thumb- in public. At least I was a closet case. My sister was strung out on a pacifier for years. Either way she and I grew out of it. Our teeth were not crooked because of it. My thumb was always there for me. Bear sucks his thumb or at least tries to. Usually the whole side of his hand if not his entire hand. We do not use it all the time just here and there. I have learned there are different kinds and brands. The older they get the sizing changes. I hope he transfers over to his thumb, but we will wait and see.
There are days I get to sleep till 9:30 or sometimes just 8:00. I can honestly say I get more sleep now then when I was pregnant. Being so round really makes sleeping difficult. The first 4 months I was busy puking from morning sickness, then I could not sleep on my stomach. Thank goodness for the body pillow KB got me. The last few months I was waking with crazy dreams or just because. Bear is a steady napper through out the day. I can run errands and give him his pacifier which makes it easier. More on the pacifier later. He starts dwindling down around 6:30 pm and then out by 10:30 pm. Wakes for maybe one night feeding but because we co-sleep I don't have to do much there. I may be one of the few who are lucky, but I am sure there are babies that sleep even better than him. So for all those who are scared of the loss of sleep perhaps that comes when you have a second baby. I just savor the moments I have alone. There was a baby in the office who was so tiny and chubby. I thought for sure he was 1 month old, at the most! He was the same age as Bear! Well my boy weighs 15 lbs. even and 23 1/2 inches long. He is wearing size 6-9 clothing, slightly loose. He is up to date on the coo's, the poo's, the grins and the head holding. Yeah! He did so good, and gave Dr. Hottie smiles and couple of clicks. He also made Kenneth's day by saying he starting to look like him.Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-91444596698237695052011-05-16T14:05:00.000-07:002011-05-16T14:05:14.968-07:00Trimm'n timeDid you happen to see the scratch on Bear's nose a couple of post back? Well it would because of his nails. It makes me super uber queasy to try to cut his nails. I cannot even describe how tiny they are.
I have tried clippers with protection guards- could not even get it to his tiny nail. I have tried magnify glass clippers, flashlight clippers and good ol' regular clippers. And yes I have even tried my teeth.
The first I time I went to cut his nails I waited till he was sound asleep. I picked up his tiny tiny little thumb nail and started to clip. I immediately pulled back fearing that I just indented his base to far. I broke out in a sweat pulled his limp sleeping body up against mine and apologized over and over again. I thought for sure I was going to pass out.
After that moment I was started putting him in onesies with gloves built in. Problem solved.
There should be a mani/pedi for newborns/toddlers at spas. I bet they would make a ton of money. I have slowly gotten a wee bit better at clipping but that is why they sell baby gloves :)
We went out to eat for the first time since having Bear. The hostess sat us in a corner, and I was grateful for you never know what might happen. So it was his nap time and he was hungry I had been dragging him around to attempt to shop. He hates shopping! Is he really my child???? Anywho I thought i would be able to feed him and then she sat ever man possible around us. After flashing them a couple of times our food arrived. It's much like home. I get to eat then KB or vice versa. Bear started off good and chilled in his stroller for a bit. Then wanted out. We finished up and left driving around the parking lot before KB went back to work and so Bear would fall asleep.
I always found it really (REALLY) annoying driving behind those individuals who crept up slowly in their cars to stop signs or red lights. "Come on just get up there already!!!" But then I had a baby. I promise I will never judge that person again. Why you may ask? Well when driving and your baby is fussy, and you finally get it to sleep if you stop that car from moving in motion HE WILL WAKE AND CRY!!! Scream!!! So just remember folks when driving behind creeping cars they may have a baby they are trying to keep asleep.Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-30960514244743567902011-05-11T20:41:00.000-07:002011-05-13T13:27:33.885-07:00Sleep TimeWell he is a sleep! That is when I get to write. He is doing so good. His manic days have passed...I hate to jinx myself but for the past 3 1/2 weeks he has gone to bed a 7:30 pm on the dot. He almost sleeps through the night. He sometimes wakes for feeding but not often. Occasionally he does this weird thing where he will just start crying and he will be completely asleep. You have to tell him "It's Okay open your eyes". It is cute. I feel bad because I giggle, but I can't help it with his little sad raisin face. He will stay asleep until 7:30-8:30 am! On Mother's day he slept till 9:30!! It was amazing!
Speaking of my first Mother's Day it was great. It was super relaxing. My sis came down for the weekend and spoiled me! She watered my plants and picked out the dead ones. That is one of the first things I stopped caring about after Bear was born. Who has time to water and groom plants when there is a whole house to take care of? She baked me muffins and chocolate cupcakes with carmel centers! She took great care of Bear. She rocked him to sleep and put him down. She snuggled and sang to him. He really loves his Aunt Lemons! Then Sunday we all slept in and did nothing! After Mel left Kb and I did laundry and relaxed together! It was perfect topped with a HOT bath and evening hike with the dogs and Bear.
Bear is really enjoying the outdoors. He is very alert to all that is around him. He is growing so much. Everyone says they grow up fast and they do. I am glad I could not imagine him being in a fragile state for long. Plus I get so many kisses, giggles and chatter from him! I love it. I love to snuggle him or should I say smother him with my love. I only get this for what another 10 more years ? Then he will be telling me to stop it :(
I have gone back to work and all is well. KB and Bear do so well at home together. I love hearing about their days. I am so glad KB gets this bonding time with him. He also realizes it is not easy being home all day with a baby. Besides the chance to take naps you really are kept on your toes! What does he need now? He is fed and has a clean diaper what now? Read another book? More tummy time? Perhaps another walk around the neighborhood? Oh he just covered himself in spit up new outfit....Time to repeat! It seems simple my friends but it is not.
I went back to work- of course still only very part time. I like the time to get out of the house and bring home some money! It's nice to see people's faces again. While I am at work Kb stays at home with Bear. We are very lucky to have this arrangement! He's so lucky to have this bonding experience. Even luckier because Kb will be transferring to a new gym just around the corner from our house and track season is over! So we will get way more time with him!
My trainer (KB) thinks its way over due for me to start working out. When my hands are not full today I will be busting through my first workout since early into my 8th month of pregnancy. The beginning of pregnancy was really tough with morning sickness. I could barely breath or walk with out puking or wanting to! I look forward to getting back in shape. Some people are like "Yeah right! You will never be where you once were!" Well I call their B.S. and say I will be in even better shape! It's not only about being healthy and fit but it makes me happy and balanced....So off to bust it out! Want to follow along? You can google the exercises for how to's...
This year is extra special Mother's Day for me because it is my first Mother's Day. I look forward to the day to look back at pictures of me and Bear! There are always the rough times and the really good times, but no matter what there is always love right there. Right next to your Mother. I may be a few states away from my Mother this year, and I wish I could be there every year to celebrate this day with her. I love her all the same. I have a wonderful Step-Mother and an amazing Mother in Law. I am thankful for such diverse and caring women around me! Each has taught me a little something, but of course my Mother has taught me so much. Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there. Especially my Mom- Happy Mother's Day. Love you!Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-34249381292515574572011-05-06T10:10:00.000-07:002011-05-06T10:10:07.189-07:00The Nervous FatherThe Nervous Father by Steve Martin
"Daddy, where did I come from?"

"Uh....uh...Well, Tommy, well it seems...well...Why, Why out of the garbage can, son. The garbage man comes and throws you in the garbage can and Mommy goes out and gets you. You see, the garbage men pick you up at the creampuff, cherry gingerbread house run by the angels with the puppy faces, and the North Star wonder men with the magic seeds tiptoe 'round the huckleberry tree."Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-56246075636078564942011-04-29T15:08:00.000-07:002011-04-29T17:24:29.249-07:00Fairies Do Exist
I found these articles about fairies. The families have put tiny little doors through out their homes for their children (or i think secretly for themselves) that belong to the entrance of little fairies homes. I thought they were so cute. The thought of Bear coming home to gifts from a fairy or just little doors to open his imagination puts a smile on my face. I am sure it would put a smile on any one's face. Little something from the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or anyone else that might want to use "the door".

"With each new home improvement there appeared a surprise. As part of that expansion, I put in a closet door under the stairs and adjacent to it, a child-size one to access the wedge of space there. Just to the right of the junior door, down in the baseboard, kids discovered yet another door about 6 inches high. When it was open, one could see an equally small staircase and railing leading up to a second door. The upper door, as far as we know, is always locked....After I built our fireplace, our daughters discovered one more door. It opened onto a room with its own tiny fireplace, and a curving stairway leading to a balcony sporting a door. There was yet another door leading off of the first room, which when opened, revealed a landing and a checkered floor beyond. A small window looked into the space from the end of the mantel. On some days, a light goes on in the far room." http://urban-fairies.com/background.html

A PACIFIER- which later would prove to save us on the way down there but not way back
Moby wrap- lifesaver!
Socks
Hats
Stroller
Diaper Bag and
BABY!!

I am sure you are getting the idea even though I am sure I forgot some stuff. That was all just for him excluding stuff for the dogs, me, and the hubs. Squished in the car for a 3.5 hour drive. He did good on the way down there. He fussed once or twice but the pacifier saved us. We stopped in Santa Barbara for quick change, feed, and bathroom break. Otherwise smooth sailing. We had a great visit. Bear got to meet some new faces. A bit off his schedule, but nothing a bouncy patio chair could not take care of. He saw his first beach visit, and had his first beach feeding. Listening to the soft sounds of the waves crashing and birds singing. Mel was did an awesome job taking baby pictures of Bear. I hope to get some printed off and framed! He is really beginning to laugh and talk.
Thankfully we made it home but that was only after about 3 or 4 stops. Bear had decided that the car seat was not for him, as well as the pacifier.
I can roll and dip low, stay on my back with no bump in the way. It was so sad near the end of my pregnancy. I could not even sit for long in fear that my oxygen was being cut off. Plus when 95% of your body is well above water level and the water can only be luke warm how is that fun. I think when you get pregnant the government should automatically give you a jacuzzi bath tub and a maid. Hell I can sleep on my tummy again!! But the baths are the most important. Thanks to the bottle and days that KB is home I can stay until I melt. KB and Bear can enjoy their nap time together :)

On a completely different note...Yesterday I bought our first set of cloth wipes and wipe warmer. Very exciting. Next up is cloth diapers! I have narrowed it down to several brands. It's tough not knowing what to use. I have searched blogs and the Internet far and wide. Some work for some peeps and some work for others, but what will work for us? I will let you. I will most likely go with several brands.

Today Bear is 6 weeks old!Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-35840969927160534432011-04-18T21:00:00.000-07:002011-04-18T21:00:50.359-07:00Mission AccomplishedI feel like he is growing up so fast. Yes, there is still so much he has not done. Bear either has Colic (yeah) or GERD (acid reflux) or as the Doctor said he may just be fussy...Well thanks that narrows it down. I do have to add a shout out to "The Happiest Baby on the Block" DVD. That has helped for his fussiness and suggest it to anyone having a baby- fussy or not. Last night I got in the bath with him and he bobbed around and ate right afterwards, and passed out hard with little fuss. He is a true Water sign. He loves bath time. I held his head and submerged his little body, and he floated with a big smile. Perhaps the bath is the way to go- but a bath every night could be bad for his delicate skin. He weighs in at 12 lb. and 11 oz.- basically a 13 pounder. The Doctors are praise him for his ability for eye contact and grasp.
Missions Accomplished this week:
He almost rolled over today!! He gets so frustrated he really wants to crawl.
He used his first pacifier- during one of his manic episodes
He used his first bottle of freshly expressed milk- we are prepping him for when I go back to work
We have been making kiss-y faces at him and oooo's and aaahhh's and he can copy us. Today Kb taught him how to click with his tongue and now every time he sees KB he does it.

I said I wanted to go back to work and I do, but I do not want to miss any little thing. I almost cried when I had to give his first bottle. I am sure that is not my last of almost crying- I expect to cry my eyes out over this kid plenty of times in my life- be it for joy or whatever else may come.
Its been a very busy first month. When I get a chance I clean. Ya know just the usual poo, pee, spit up....We have made it to One month! Bear has gotten so big. He is a morning person. He likes to wake up eat and get a warm bath. He makes an "Oooo" face when he gets in. After a little tummy time he off to eat sleep poo for the rest of his day. Tough schedule. We guestimate he is about 14 lbs. We go to the Pedi. on Tuesday. He is busting with chub out of his 0-3 month clothes. He loves his car seat and going on long walks drifting off to soft music. He has bad days of growth spurts occasionally but otherwise all good.

He only wakes once or twice in the night to eat and change a diaper. I love how he wakes up in the morning. It takes a good 35-45 minutes of stretching and moaning.

I look forward going back to work, working out, and just doing "normal" things again. C-sections is like a handicap. I miss baths!

Well off to soothe the sleepy crying baby!Whit and KBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10138245847451089270noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4759256424299840174.post-8117102275919870782011-03-30T12:03:00.000-07:002011-03-30T12:03:12.818-07:00How...How do you go to the bathroom? How do you walk around the house and leave him in another room? What happens if he spits up or chokes on it? How are you not suppose to check to see if he is breathing every two seconds? How do you type on computer with one hand because he does not want to be put down? How do you not want to eat him up with all his cute chubbiness? I want to squish him with love! I want our first week back. I want him to be giggling and walking and talking and asking questions until my head explodes.
How will I deal as he grows older and gains independence? How do you teach and tell him everything is going to be okay when in fact you are just going with the flow, one day at a time.
I am and will have how do you and what do you do's for the next 18 years. I don't expect answers. We will learn together. After all he does not even know "how". He just knows cry now and boob will appear.
Now that I am here it amazes me that so many women do this. Young girls becoming mothers. Single women doing this on their own. I applaud them for their strength. I applaud all mothers and even the fathers. Cheers to new "hows"! So much to say. First off after being a week overdue and asked several times by my doctors if I would like to be induced I finally said yes. Two weeks prior to my induction my doctor was listening to the Bean's heartbeat and stated what a big baby it felt like. Uh oh. It should have set off ringers but I was bound and determined to do this naturally! We went into the hospital on March 7th at 8:30 am ready for our induction. My sister, KB and I completely prepared for not knowing what to expect what so ever. I was hooked up to picotin and an IV. I had been having small contractions for weeks but nothing was happening. So I just knew today would be the day I would have a baby. This time next week I would have a baby. By this time tomorrow I would be a mother.
Some things you can't control but through all of my pregnancy I have kept an open mind- as much as possible. I was prepared with my birth plan, had music, and lovely sister providing massage and fashion and gossip magazines. We began. Contractions were getting bigger and I felt more confident than ever that I could do this. Even my nurse believed in me! However my cervix was not believing in me. They sent in an Ultrasound technician. She measured the baby for his weight and that is were is all started to turn. Her eyes got big and she said "oh, oh my uh oh". That never is good. She said I was going to have a very large baby averaging 9lbs 10oz. My Doctor called and said I could labor all the way to 10 centimeters and do everything naturally as I wanted but in the end my cervix was not opening and my pelvic bones were way to small for something so large. Besides feeling honored that I was petite in the bones I had not expected a c-section. Perhaps an epidural at most. Well there goes that birth plan.
Kb and I finished our game of goldfish got some good food seeing it would be my last for very long time. I had not read the C-section part of What to Expect when you are Expecting so I decided I should brush up on that a.s.a.p. After couple sentences Kb told me I was not allowed to read anymore as to not freak myself out.
This time tomorrow I will have a baby.
So early the next morning the nurses came in and got started on the prep work. In no time Kb was entering the surgery room I hear "Wow that is a big head". Doctor's started biding on his weight "can I get a 9.5, how about 10?". "Kenneth do you want to tell her what it is?" A boy! A perfect 9 lbs. and 12 oz baby boy. 10 fingers, 10 toes, a penis, and the Monroe nose! Just like I was a mother.
As I type this now wearing my boppy I have the most handsome little guy in my lap sleeping very happily. We are home now not knowing what to expect from one moment to another and that is how I expect it to be from now on. No expectations and that is just fine with me.
